Mike is a veteran of over 500 Channel Islands cruises and is a former USCG Search & Rescue officer. Mike sailed to 4th place honors in the first (1978) Singlehanded TransPac race from San Francisco to Hawaii. As a professional sailing instructor, he skippered a 3-month trans-Atlantic instructional cruise aboard a custom 38-foot race boat. Sailing from Europe to the US with a crew of three students, they covered over 7,000 miles. Mike recently completed a 6-month Mexico cruise on his 30-foot sloop. He is also a writer and photographer with frequent contributions to Sail, Cruising World, Latitude 38 and Sea magazines. Mike holds a USCG license, California state credential, and authored the American Sailing Association (ASA) Navigation Manual. He is an accredited marine surveyor, in practice since 1975.
